Visiting Band Workshops

Band directors with student big bands of all ages are encouraged to bring their performing groups for a customized workshop at Frederick P. Rose Hall, home of Jazz at Lincoln Center, for an opportunity to work directly with JALC clinicians and artists.

About the program

Visiting band workshops welcome student jazz ensembles of all varieties to the Irene Diamond Education Center at Frederick P. Rose Hall, home of Jazz at Lincoln Center, and engage them in high quality and inspiring clinics with renowned musicians and educators. Each workshop is a customized collaboration with teaching artists and musicians of the highest caliber, who respond to the individual needs of a student ensemble. Sessions can be adapted to address specific concepts, composers, and genres of jazz. Workshop content is based on Jazz at Lincoln Center’s pedagogical approach and high quality charts for jazz ensembles.

Contact us for specific costs. Most workshops are two hours, but longer workshops may also be scheduled. The fee includes artist/clinician, room rental, piano, drum set, upright bass, chairs, and stands. Other instruments or equipment can be rented for an additional fee.

Clinicians

We have a roster of outstanding artist/clinicians and will work with the band director to identify a clinician best suited for his or her group.

Scheduling

Subject to availability in the studio spaces at Frederick P. Rose Hall, a “hold” can be put in the calendar as soon as interest is expressed.Contact us as early as possible for best availability, especially during the busy spring season. Weekday mornings or afternoons are strongly preferred.

Repertoire

Bands should prepare three charts for a two-hour workshop. We ask that at least one chart be from the Jazz at Lincoln Center print music library, including our Essentially Ellington Series, Jazz for Young People Series and Essential Jazz Editions.
