On May 7–11, 2025, Jazz at Lincoln Center proudly presents the 30th anniversary of Essentially Ellington, our transformative international High School Jazz Band Program.

To mark the occasion, we’re expanding the program, exclusively for this banner year. Here’s how:

  • We’re doubling the number of finalist bands to 30 that will be eligible to participate in the 2025 EE Competition & Festival. In 2025 we’ll invite 30 bands to NYC!
  • The Competition and Festival will last five days – May 7-11, 2025 – and offer even more programs for band directors and students.
  • The final concert on May 11 will be held at the historic Metropolitan Opera House, located at Lincoln Center in New York, NY.…and more exciting updates to be announced.
