Arnhold Innovation Series: Carlos Henriquez and Obed Calvaire
The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra

ABOUT THE CONCERT

Join Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra bassist Carlos Henriquez and percussionist Obed Calvaire as they pay tribute to their respective Puerto Rican and Haitian roots through new compositions. Henriquez, a Bronx native and Essentially Ellington alum, has been a member of the JLCO since 1998 and has performed with artists such as Chucho Valdés, Tito Puente, and Marc Anthony. His recent works, including The South Bronx Story and A Nuyorican Tale, explore the rich culture of his heritage.

Calvaire, born in Miami to Haitian parents, is a graduate of the Manhattan School of Music and has been a member of the JLCO since 2021. Also an Essentially Ellington alum, he has performed with artists like Dave Holland, SFJAZZ Collective, Linda Oh and Sean Jones. His latest album, 150 Million Gold Francs, delves into Haiti's complex history and its influence on his music.

Henriquez and Calvaire will both present brand new compositions that shine a spotlight on the vibrant sounds of the Afro-Caribbean diaspora.

Made possible by the John and Jody Arnhold Innovation Fund.
