Celia Cruz: A Centennial Celebration!
feat. Aymee Nuviola, Alain Perez and Ariacne Trujillo Duran
ABOUT THE CONCERT
Latin jazz takes center stage in this vibrant centennial celebration of the Cuban “Queen of Salsa,” Celia Cruz. Led by music director Carlos Henriquez, acclaimed bassist of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra and one of today’s leading voices in Latin jazz, this joyful tribute honors Cruz’s life and legacy with authenticity and artistry. Having performed with her early in his career, Henriquez brings a deeply personal touch to the music, featuring iconic hits like “La Vida es un Carnaval,” “Quimbara,” and “Bemba Colorá.”
He is joined by Grammy Award-winner Aymée Nuviola, celebrated vocalist and bassist Alain Pérez, and Grammy-nominated Ariacne Trujillo Duran, who together fill the stage with soaring vocals, irresistible rhythms, and the joy that made Celia Cruz a global icon. Get a taste of what’s to come by listening to our curated playlist, here.
Families can also join the celebration at a special Family Concert on October 18 at 3PM, led by Henriquez and featuring Trujillo Duran, introducing audiences of all ages to the rhythms of salsa and the story of one of Latin music’s most influential voices. This Relaxed Performance is open to everyone and especially welcoming for people with autism, sensory or communication needs, or learning disabilities.
