Featuring the JLCO with Wynton Marsalis, this concert brings the unmistakable rhythms of Brazilian music to Rose Theater with new compositions by acclaimed bandolinist Hamilton de Holanda paying tribute to the legendary composer Moacir Santos.
Hamilton de Holanda is renowned for his virtuosity on the 10-string bandolim, a modern evolution of the traditional Brazilian mandolin. Since his early performances at the age of six, he has captivated audiences worldwide with his innovative approach, blending traditional Brazilian choro with contemporary jazz. De Holanda's collaborations span genres and continents, having performed with artists like Wynton Marsalis, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, and Chucho Valdés. His recent album COLLAB, a partnership with Rubalcaba, was nominated for a 2025 Latin Grammy Award for Best Latin Jazz Album.
This concert not only celebrates the musical heritage of Brazil but also highlights the enduring legacy of its artists in shaping the global jazz landscape.
