Our award-winning education programs are tailored for students of all ages, from toddlers just starting to swing to adults interested in expanding their knowledge of jazz.

Essentially Ellington

One of the most innovative education events in the world, the annual Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Band Competition & Festival brings musicians from across North America to our venue to spend three days immersed in workshops, jam sessions, rehearsals and performances.

Led by a team of prominent jazz educators, Band Directors Academy is a multi-day professional development workshop for band directors that emphasizes hands-on learning and practical techniques.

Let Freedom Swing

Based on Wynton Marsalis and Sandra Day O’Connor’s conversations on jazz and democracy, Let Freedom Swing brings outstanding jazz artists and performances to school audiences.

Jazz for Young People

Each concert season, we offer Jazz for Young People concerts in Rose Theater. Hosted by Wynton Marsalis or by special guests, these hour-long narrated concerts use warmth and humor to introduce key musical concepts and other jazz fundamentals.
