CONCERT FOR STUDENTS: WHO IS GERRY MULLIGAN?
ABOUT THE CONCERT
Jazz at Lincoln Center’s recurring series for young audiences reveals a sonic portrait of saxophonist and composer Gerry Mulligan, a key figure in the cool jazz movement. His mellow tones and slick arrangements became a hallmark of the West Coast sound, and his seminal orchestrations and pioneering piano-less quartet influenced generations of improvising composers and remain in heavy rotation worldwide. Experience the impact of Mulligan’s innovations and the heart of his expansive artistry as the members of Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Future of Jazz Orchestra share repertoire selections and anecdotes from his illustrious career.
